Parent and Child Self Defence class in Essex School Holidays
This is a taster class ideal for children attending school years 6 and 7.
Ages 10 and 11 are often when children start to have a little more responsibility and independence, start walking to and from school and prepare to move up to or within secondary school.
Children often receive their first mobile phone around this age too, so my courses cover personal safety skills including aspects with tech.
Attending secondary school, for most, means travelling further and possibly using buses or trains for the first time, plus longer days combining earlier starts and / or later finishes.
Self Defence Tip
In the theory section of my classes, I cover putting mobile phones away, out of sight.
Mobile phone technology is important and gives us access to many aspects of our life, both business and social. Removing the phone from being on show reduces the focus and possible intent of an attack/ mugging.
If we are walking down the street to work, meeting a friend, shopping, going to/from school etc. and have our phone out texting or updating social media we are not concentrating on the roads, traffic, surroundings or people.
There are several safety issues about walking down the street with a phone in your hand; potential theft / accident crossing the road etc.
If you need to text, stop walking, put your back against a wall, deal with the text then securely replace mobile in a bag or pocket and continue whatever you were doing.
It’s better to Know and Not Need than Need and Not Know.
Self Defence Training
It’s great fun, particularly the practical part. The camaraderie that develops in groups is infectious, it’s a great mix between learning important life skills, in both theory and practical techniques, and having fun.
Training is always positive and encouraging within the group.
Parent and Child self defence taster class
30 minutes of theory covering reasonable force, personal safety, followed by a minimum of 1.5 hours of practical covering distance control, voice commands, protecting the head, restraining an attacker standing up and, if time allows, knife defence tips.
The session finishes with pressure testing teaching the ability to avoid ‘Freezing’ in an attack situation.
Absolute brilliant taster session this morning with my child. We had so much fun and learnt loads, highly recommend for anyone especially for those going up to secondary school.
Parent and Child class review
I had been looking for a Self defence class for my 10-year old daughter, due to start Senior School soon and walk on her own, She’s learnt a lot over a short period of time and has grown in confidence.
I would highly recommend the training
